Singing Our Way Home: Solidarity. Song. Resistance & Healing.
Join Irish musician, storyteller and mischief maker Áine Tyrrell along with Tuvaluan-Irish storyteller, psychotherapist and musician Leah Avene for an afternoon tea of stories, healing and hope.
As we witness the unravelling of colonies globally, we come together to offer a space to be in community to heal and connect through song, story and radical conversation.
What to expect: Leah will offer an Indigenising framework for healing from colonial fragmentation disorder and offer the cultural and narrative repair of song, story and community making. Áine will share generations of knowledge that slams foot to floorboards in both protest and celebration of our Irish stories. Both artists will facilitate and invite everyone into a conversation about homecoming and resistance through reclaiming our stories.
The Irish diaspora is strongly encouraged to come and lean into remembering who you are, but this is a healing for all lines who are here on unceded lands.
About your hosts: Leah Manaema Avene is a parent, musician, broadcaster and researcher whose work focuses on internal, relational and systemic repair from the wounds of colonial imposition. Áine Tyrrell is a mother, musician, knowledge keeper, songwriter and part of a long line of storytellers, musicians and traditional dancers who have kept the songs, stories and stirrings from the West Coast of Ireland.
