WHY PATREON?
For those who don't know, Patreon is a subscription service that connects artists directly with their community.
I started my journey on Patreon in 2020 when, as an Independent Artist, I had to quickly pivot from an income 95% reliant on live touring, to a new way of earning and connecting as an artist with my community. In less than a year, this Patreon Community was recognised by The Australian Newspaper as Top Creator in 2021 for the community we created and new innovative ways of being an Artist in a Global Pandemic.
Why am I committed to more connection on Patreon in 2023?
1. I want to Continue to Create as we recover from so much uncertainty these past years. Adapting, pivoting and remaining nimble is demanded of us in these times, and Patreon helps me to keep creating, inventing and showing up for fans as an artist in these time. Our next major project together is recording and releasing my third album.
2. I Believe In Community. I was raised valuing Community and grown up knowing the human need for in circles of community to hold us. I have seen the need for these circles more urgent now than ever before. As an artist, I thrive where I am of service and so Patreon grows in this place. From my humble beginnings with crowdfunding, my community has always been an important part of my life and journey as an artist and it has been an honour to watch this particular Patreon community grow and become the beautiful space it is for like-minded people to create the most wholesome connections week in week out. Patreon allows me to create stronger, more innovative and direct relationships with you all, giving you more of me and more of a sense of what "us" is which is so fractured in these times.
3. I want to share more deeply. Social media has its limitations and attention spans. Live shows and festival settings have their limitations in set times and what can be done. I always get off the stage wanting to have given much more behind my culture, songs, and life. Don't get me wrong, I love sharing in both those places, but Patreon allows me to share MORE and more parts of me that might now show up in normal music settings. We can explore things that the confines of live shows, festivals and social media just don't allow. It also allows for two-way-conversations and much more interactive spaces where my community share more that also informs my decisions and creative process.
4. I am a creative mama. And nothing is more important to me than being a fully present mother. Having regular Patreon income allows me to be both Creator and Mother without compromising either. I am a better mother when I am creating and a better artist as mother.
5. This is our Revolution, and I want to stay Independent. We are a bunch of rebels co-creating this Patreon community and in our Revolution, we have control. I believe my work can and does have a strong impact and because you believe in a better world and better ways forward, you have found me. With the support of my Patrons, I am committed to my journey in music and art to be sustainable and full of integrity-full. The Revolution here is that we co-create more incredible art together without the need of signing the integrity of my art away.
